WordPress 2.6.2

WordPress 2.6.2 has been released.  It is a recommended upgrade due to an issue regarding open registration:

With open registration enabled, it is possible in WordPress versions 2.6.1 and earlier to craft a username such that it will allow resetting another user’s password to a randomly generated password.  The randomly generated password is not disclosed to the attacker, so this problem by itself is annoying but not a security exploit.  However, this attack coupled with a weakness in the random number seeding in mt_rand() could be used to predict the randomly generated password.  Stefan Esser will release details of the complete … Continue reading »

First Look at WordPress 2.7

Weblog Tools Collection and Binary Moon both have new posts about the upcoming changes and features in WordPress 2.7.  It’s currently scheduled for an early November release, so there could still be a lot of changes yet, but it’s shaping up to be a really great release.  They look to be optimzing and streamlining the new interface that was introduced in 2.5 as well as doing some major work on the dashboard and the Write page.  Very exciting!  Check out the posts below to find out more details and see some screenshots of what 2.7 may look like:… Continue reading »

WordPress 2.6.1

WordPress 2.6.1 is out today. They are labeling it a “maintenance release” meaning it’s not a required upgrade, but if you’ve experienced any bugs with your install of 2.6, then you should upgrade.  This version fixes 60 different bugs from the previous version.  Here’s a list of the changed files if you just want to replace those in your current install.  Or go download the whole thing.
