We’re Hiring!

April 25, 2007 | Filed under: News

Due to Heather’s recent indefinite hiatus and the volume of inquiries we’ve been receiving, we have decided it might be time to bring in some new blood. Below is a list of basic requirements. Scroll down to the end to find out how to contact us and what we need from you.

Basic Requirements

  1. (x)HTML/CSS - Intermediate to Expert knowledge
  2. Graphics editing/creation (ie Photoshop/Illustrator or similar) - Intermediate to Expert knowledge
  3. Knowledge of major content management systems
  4. Time management skills
  5. People skills
  6. Patience (and lots of it)
  7. Passion (you gotta love what you do)

More about the basic requirements:
We’re looking for a well rounded designer/developer. This means you are (more or less) equally good at the design aspect, (ie editing graphics, creating mock ups in Photoshop or a similar program) as well as the technical aspect like splicing, coding, installing a design.

Being familiar with WordPress is a must. Being familiar with any of the following is a plus, but not a requirement: Blogger, Movable Type/TypePad, Expression Engine, phpBB, vBulletin. Also a plus, being able to not only design for any these platforms, but troubleshoot, install, upgrade and install plugins and extras for them.

Time management, people skills, patience and passion all come down to one thing: client interaction. You will have many clients depending on you (probably all at the same time). You will need to be able to start and finish their project with in a reasonable time frame. Your clients will have a lot of questions which will also need to be answered within a reasonable time and with much patience on your part since most are not technically inclined. Helpfulness and passion for your job go a long way toward a happy client (and a happy client equals repeat business and referrals).

About the Job
While all the designers at Swank are certainly a team and we help each other as much as we can, this is still a solo job. You are completely responsible for each client you have, from billing to mock up to installation to maintenance after the job is done. This is another reason why client relationships are so important.

You may work from wherever you want: home, office, Starbucks. You just need a reliable computer and an internet connection. We deal with most clients via email, but some may want to talk on the phone, so a phone is good to have as well.

This is a part-time position to start out with, but could quickly grow to full time depending on client referrals and such. In short, you’ll need plenty of time to work. Please don’t apply if you can only work for an hour a night after your regular job or school. We need someone we can depend on and who we can trust clients with.

Extras
Do you know Flash? Are you good at illustration? Photography? Do you specialize in web standards and accessibility? Are there any extra services you can perform in addition to the basic requirements? Extras like these are good to know (but not required) and may give you an edge on the competition.

Contact us
If you are interested, please write in to contact@swankwebstyle.com. We’d like to know as much about you as we can. It’s important to us to hire someone who will be a good fit at Swank, so please send as much info as you are comfortable with. This can include but isn’t limited to:

  1. Resume
  2. Links to websites you’ve designed (or a portfolio if you have one)
  3. Screenshots
  4. Code samples
  5. List of all Content Management systems you are familiar with as well as the programs you use (Photoshop, Dreamweaver, etc.)
  6. Client references
  7. A link to your blog or website
  8. Samples of any extra services you can provide

If you have any questions, please let us know. Please check back here for updates. We hope to hear from you soon!
